Abazukulwana is an Afro-Indie duo weaving electric guitar riffs and bass-driven rhythms into stories of youth, identity, and joy. Rooted in the rich textures of Southern Africa, their sound blends the heart of traditional music with the edge of indie rock—what some have affectionately called indigenous rock.
Formed in 2021 through the open mic circuit in Hatfield, Pretoria, Abazukulwana—meaning Grandchildren—embodies the spirit of the new generation while honouring the values of the past. The band is made up of Avile, hailing from King William’s Town in the Eastern Cape, and Khensani, from Brits in the North West. Both are vocalists; Avile brings expressive electric guitar melodies, while Khensani anchors the sound with soulful bass lines.
Their debut project, Ekuqaleni, is a 7-track exploration of beginnings—of friendships, of music, of identity. It’s been warmly received, with listeners praising its honesty, energy, and emotional depth.
Abazukulwana’s music is playful yet grounded, offering a sonic home for those who believe in the power of love, family, and creativity. Through every note and lyric, they aim to connect hearts and spark joy.
